Best Gotcha Day Ever!

I was born sometime in the year 2007. I don't remember my biological mother much. Just that I somehow ended up cold and wet and crying at someone's kitchen door. That was Aunty J's kitchen. Aunty J and her family took pity on me and welcomed me into their life. I stayed with them for about three months before I was surrendered to my Mama. The rest, as they say, is history.

To commemorate that fateful day in July 2007 when my Mama first "gotcha" me, we had a small celebration at home. At first Mama wanted to invite the usual gang to a party but as she had a flu, decided against it. The celebration started from morning until midnight. Serious! They came in small doses but I savour every moment.

There I was relaxing next to the hibernating queen, waiting for Mama to prepare breakfast.

Hmmm...some interesting cooking happening there.

Aah...poffertjes. Yummm....those tiny morsels of delight also known as Dutch pancakes. We had those with honey.

Mama said she made the poffertjes to also celebrate the Dutch team's achievement in the World Cup. I'm not complaining. Oh, there's no recipe for this coz we got the pancake mix from the big guy at Parklea Market. Just add water, the instruction on the packet says.

We then spent the day gardening, mostly weeding as the rain has encouraged growth of some weeds in the pots. Some of the plants are also infected by pests and we had to spray white oil on them.

Come midday, Mama went to the kitchen again and made some fried noodles. She was really spoiling me rotten. The noodle dish has loads of prawns and veggies in it. Yumm....

Want some? No, you can't. It's all mine.

And just when I thought it wouldn't get any better, Mama made chocolate chip cookies laden with heaps of macadamia nuts for afternoon tea. I had the cookies with Milo. I think the whole block could smell the aroma of the cookies.

Some people say Mama's choc chip cookies are better than that "famous" brand. I agree.

My stomach was so full with all those pancakes, noodles and cookies that I had to decline Mama's offer of dinner. "But tell me if you're hungry again, OK?," she said.

Even Angelina woke up from her slumber to help me celebrate. I couldn't be eating all those delish stuffs alone now, could I?

Later in the evening, my stomach was growling and I was begging for a light supper. So I have a bottomless pit of a stomach, OK? Mama has been so cooperative all day that I was at first hesitant to beg. But as it was my special day, she still went to the kitchen and cook up something. Hmmm....what else I wonder....

I could hear some stir frying, chili in the pan (everyone sneezed), then some mashing and bashing and more frying....to produce these:

Aah...cekodok pisang and sambal ikan bilis. We ate these while watching Germany demolish Argentina. Sweet.....

And that's how we celebrated my "gotcha" day. har har har *evil laughs*

Is that you in the header? You're soooo adorable! And that's praise, k, cos I'm so not a cat-person!

You are lucky you've got such a rajin mama! She must love you oooodles!

Believe it or not, you inspired me to watch some football. First time, in a lonnnnnnng time, my husband and I found ourselves watching the Germany vs Argentina game. We knew nothing and no one, and from the commentator, learned that Argentina was the 'one to beat'.

Hahahah! That was a brilliant match! Both of us cheered for the 'under dog'; couldn't believe our luck at seeing a goal scored within minutes of the start - and stayed to the end of the four-goal (five, if you count Argentina's offside one!) match! Yay! Thank you for the inspiration ;)

Aunty Pat,
Yesss...that's me and my Mama. I am soooo taking over this blog from Angelina. Maybe I should seek help from a sorcerer to let her hibernate forever.... Oh, we inspired you to finally watch the game? Glad to be of service to you, ma'am. har har har *evil laughs*

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Cheqna,
The cekodok was for before the game, OK? For breakfast yesterday we had roti and dhal. yummm..... I bet the Argentinians couldn't even eat breakfast yesterday. At least we're saved from seeing Maradona running around in his birthday suit if they win the WC. har har har *evil laughs*

Cheqna said...

huh..did he say that?..i think that's how the players "protest"..by letting go 4 times! hehe...

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Cheqna,
Yeap. He said it. Phew! Kalau Messi yang kata gitu, nak juga tengok. Kalau Marad Ona, tak payahlah... har har har *evil laughs*

one day Ayoh Wang will muster enough courage to go down to your place and learn how to make that Poffertjes.. bet it is much harder than making "jemput" pisang

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Ayoh Wang,
Dok payoh mane...it's like making "kuih cara", minus the "inti". I think making kayu keramat is harder. har har har *evil laughs*

What a lovely day-long celebration you had, dear Brad! Many Happy Returns on the occasion of your Gotcha Day! My housemates gets my Rowdies KFC or roast chicken/turkey on their Gotcha Days. I normally give them Addiction on Fancy Feast Royale and perhaps a new box to sit in.

Here is a Cat Birthday comic strip you will enjoy! I certainly did!

CO78,
The cat-in-box comic is soooo funny. Too bad Angelina is still hibernating or else she can share the humour too...not that she has that much.. har har har *evil laughs*

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Ayoh Wang,
Your comment about learning to make poffertjes in in your own blog...you didn't send it here. You need ginko biloba too.... Anyway, the way to eat poffertjes is to put sweet sauce on top - strawberry, blueberry, chocolate etc - and then sprinkle with icing sugar. yummmm...... har har har *evil laughs*

Dear Brad,

Please ask your Mom how is it possible I never ever tasted all these wonderful treats?

BTW, just between you and me - we are not really missing Angelina, are we? What's gonna happen when World Cup is over?

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Aunty Ninot,
We'll cross the bridge when we come it, OK? In the meantime, let that princess hibernate as she pleases. My Mama said: coz you never come to our home! har har har *evil laughs*

Lee said...

Hi Cat, your mom is a wonderful cook, and that noodle dish sure looks sinfully delicious.
Out of curiosity, how many cats are there in the house?

How many languages your cats understand? Malay, English...? Ha ha.
Have fun, Lee.

Cheqna said...

ehem ehem..lying low nampak?.."cat got ur tongue"..haha..

:-)

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Dear Uncle Lee,
Now you know what a cekodok is, right? Oh, there are six of us in two houses, in two countries. We speak many languages at home with meowspeak as the lingua franca. We'll converse with Mama in English and Bahasa, she'll sometimes swear in Tamil, Japanese or Mandarin and whispers sweet nothings in French. How's that? har har har *evil laughs*

Wan Sharif said...

Wow..
Your Mama whispers sweet nothings to you in French

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Cheqna,
Not lying low...just catching up on sleep. har har har *evil laughs*

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Ayoh Wang,
Mama can be romantic sometimes. She'll sometimes sing a funny song called Petit Boites - sort of a lullaby. Oh, but you wouldn't want to hear her rave and rant in Javanese. har har har *evil laughs*
