A Sunday Afternoon to Remember

We seldom get out of the house on weekends, except for special occasions like weddings or rare social events because that's when we'll do house cleaning, cooking special lunches/dinners etc. Well, last weekend was indeed rare that we attended two events. One is Aunty Anoi's wedding while the other is a book party.

My dear Ayoh Wang Hulaimi aka Awang Goneng who lives in London, is in town, and he's just launched his second book - A Map of Trengganu last week. Check out his blog - Kecek-kecek - (it's on my list of fav reads - blogroll) to know him better.

We missed Uncle AG's book signing at MPH MidValley on Saturday so we thought we'd better not miss this one. Anyway, the venue would be on our way home from attending Aunty Anoi's wedding. And I get to be pawpawrazzi for a change.....teeheehee!

Event: A Celebration of A Map of Trengganu
Venue: RA Fine Art, Solaris Dutamas (it's an art gallery)
Date/Time: 01/05/10/1500hrs

First things first: An autographed copy for Angelina. That RM33 was well spent, Mama.
Uncle Ishak (the famous Ishak Nengah) and Aunty KT (the famous Zaharah Othman of BBC London aka Mrs Awang Goneng) were the master and mistress of ceremony for the event.
Uncle AG delivering his speech - among others: blogging frees the mind from the burden of not writing down what's in his mind for years, and that's how he started writing his first book - Growing Up in Trengganu (available from Amazon).
The crowd - friends and family of Uncle AG, plus some members of the Press, plus some blogger friends.
An audience following Uncle AG's reading of a passage from his book.
Aaahhh....typical Malaysian function - must have food!
And more food - of the traditional Trengganu variety.
Uncle AG had to give a press conference afterwards....
Poor chap had to earn his afternoon tea (he doesn't drink coffee, he says)!

Angelina's Note: Ayoh Wang, enjoy your short sojourn in Malaysia, mate! purrr....meow!

I meant to review his book ages ago and I think I forgot. Oops. Thanks for the reminder.

We’re taking a blogging break. Back in 3 weeks!

Waaaa.. you get a signed copy ! I'd like to read this book, I've never been to Terengganu before, I heard the beach there is divine. Ya know, you are a surprisingly famous supercat : you have book author as buddy, get invited to all sorts of wedding parties, can go to New Zealand, etc etc... how lucky

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Tante Sandy,
If you could just go to the "cheap" airline website, buy a ticket to KL, then I'll take you to Nilai (to buy curtains), Trengganu (for the beaches), I'll even throw in visit to turtle sanctuary, then next Sunday to meet with Ayoh Wang @ Borders. How about that? Tell Uncle Erwin I'll take very good care of you. purrr....meow!

Sandy said...

Ooh !! Sounds awesome :D hahaha ... *checking tickets*

Tante Sandy,
But be quick! Ayoh Wang going back to London on the 8th! purrr....meow!

What fun! I wonder what I will be able to recall of Terengganu if I were to read his book. I haven't been back to Terengganu in years. Is that Kuih Akok I see? Congratulations to Uncle Awang Goneng on his new book!
