Reminiscence on Friday: Chippy @ Gympie

Around this time last year, we had a sojourn in Queensland. I would call it a Touch'n'Go tour as we spent bits of time everywhere, not just in Gympie but also in Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Gold Coast before returning to Sydney. Ooohhh...I still weep whenever the name of my birth town is mentioned although I'm a full fledged Malaysian now....

Anyway, we had lunch at this wonderful place called Octopus Seafood in Gympie and had a delicious selection of seafood. There was the ubiquitous fish and chips, grilled fish as well as prawns and squids....oh no....the keyboard is wet with drool. Hurry up, Mama, where's the hanky?

Grilled Barramundi for Dad (and Brad! the table scrap beggar).
.....while Mama and I had this scrumptuous calamari. I just found out that Malaysians call this sotong celup tepung (squid in batter)...
Don't you think the presentation is just pawesome??? Oh, we had one of each. Not enough to share just one "cone".
Angelina's note: Hmm....why are we talking about Australia now? Are we returning to the land where I was born? purrr...meow!

That food looks super yummy! I can't wait to hear if you're going back to Oz or not.

Maybe a little homesick for cones of chips? Perhaps a voyage is pending?

It certainly was yummy, Oskar. Haven't found anything equal yet. Going back to Oz? There's a 30-day quarantine that I dread. purrr...meow!

Aunty Caro,
Cones of chippies are achievable. As for voyage...errr...do I have to answer that? purrr...meow!

Was in Darwin last month. Had lots of barramundi. Not bad. [but the Aussies are terrible at making teh tarik]

Mmmmm...ikanG! And that barramundi looks so juicy! To think that I'm not fond of cats...but when I was little, my family called me 'kucing' sebab suka sangat meratah ikan. Yup, until today, ikan is my favourite.

m.q. dear,
Hey! Who said anything about going back? purrr...meow!

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Your Royal Monyetness,
Am shocked that they didn't quarantine you. I think the taste of siakap is similar to the barra. We call it the freshest fish ever because it's always 'baru mandi'. purrr...meow!

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Aunty Lili,
Could it because you have to compete with the cats? purrr...meow!

Oh yum that looks good! I love calamari; nice to learn the Malay for it. My Malay friends call it calamari, which is rather odd when you think about it.....

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Aunty Pat,
I thought that's the staple food in your English Cottage? purrr...meow!

Au, Target & Guido,
Hey! I can teach you boys some Malay...with an Aussie twang! I only charge an arm and a leg. Go to the East Coast states - Trengganu especially for scrumptious sotong celup tepung or ikan celup tepung. They come with home made chili sauce, and young coconut juice....yummmm.... purrr...meow!

Food is a great way of reliving fond memories of a holiday. Which explains why I have a fondness for TipTop and Bulla ice cream!

Cat-from-Sydney said...

CO78,
Have you tried Weisz fruit ice bar? It's also from Qld and soooo yummy! purrr...meow!
