Sejenis pokok ini banyak dapat dilihat di bandar K Terengganu pada masa yang silang, dan terkenal dikalangan orang orang dahulu dengan nama 'buna pecah kauala' - flower of opening of river estuary. The trees were in full bloom at he time of the year when the river mouth o Terengganu bgan to widen up after Monsoon. It is a shame these trees are not seen around here nowadays and to older generation - me included of course! - it is a memory of a beautiful plant with a strangely beautiful name to signify a natural event of the year.

Of course travelling along the forests in Sabah I used to see these beautiful plants, their presence signified by their beautiful red tops rising above other tree tops.

Dear Pakcik,
Is it this tree or perhaps you're talking about the African tulip? It's a big tree with orange tulip-like flowers. A magnificent tree. Mama said there used to be one at her old school, if they haven't cut it down. purrrr *giggles*

Cat-from-Sydney said...
