It's the school holidays for human kids now, plus a loooong weekend because of the King's birthday and we found many invitations to weddings. Hmmm....I love weddings...Mama says it's a good way for me to understand Malaysian culture (the diversity of it, of course) and for us to indulge in yummy food....
We attended two wedding receptions over the weekend and stuffed ourselves silly. Luckily there wasn't any on Sunday so we managed to get some deserved rest (of the tummy). I wish Blogger has some device that will make the food pictures emit appropriate aroma. Until then, just feast with your eyes, OK?
Wedding 1: Mai & Faris
Friday (June 3rd) evening at Matrade Exhibition & Conference Centre.
Modern and dreamy....we love the use of white feather and white balloons as decor. Everyone looks so posh and dressed to the nines. The amount of jewellery worn by everyone can feed several villages in Africa, Mama said. Mother of the bride is Mama's president of the alumni (they went to the same school).
|
The sight that greeted us at the MECC banquet hall....I felt like floating with the balloons.... |
|
Arrival of bride and groom could be seen clearly on four humongous screens so guests didn't have to strain their necks to get a better look at the procession. |
|
The food....I love the butter prawns and the beef rendang.....we had second helpings...teeheehee... |
|
Every guest gets a spiced egg in this cute bucket. |
|
We ate ours there and then....yummmmmm...... |
|
While we were having dinner, this bloke with a "cousin" button badge came and gave us souvenirs from the bride's family. |
|
The bride and groom on the dais, patiently enduring the many speeches and videos and photograph shows. |
|
Dessert time was sweet....with longan and jelly. |
|
Oooh...the bride's family owns a cake factory and we get to sample yummy cheesecakes that night. Our table get the tiramisu. Everyone was happy. |
|
The bride and groom saying goodbye to guests and relatives at the end of the event. |
|
Our group photo with the bride and groom. Someone told the groom: We are your mother-in-law's friends. Hope we didn't scare him. |
|
Group photo with mother of the bride (in purple dress). She had this cute button badge with white feather that says "mother". |
Wedding 2: Amal & Akmal
Saturday (June 4th) afternoon at Hotel Singgahsana. The groom (Amal) is the second son of Aunty Zendra, one of my blogger aunties (she's on my blogroll - Tiger's Muse or rather Zendra's Fascination). Our friendship in blogosphere has blossomed into real life as well. The reception was celebrated in full Malay tradition and I love the attention paid to detail. We brought my handsome Abang Epi and he said when he gets married, he wants a similar do. (
What are you waiting for girls? Hurry up, send in your applications to be his wife....). We also met other bloggers at the do - Aunty Puteri, Aunty Ezza, Aunty NanaDJ and Dr Sam. Enjoy the feast.
|
Pawrents of the groom - Uncle Red Alfa (yes...he blogs too) and Aunty Zendra. They look like newly wed couple too. |
|
Beautiful betel nut (brass and gold thread embroidery) set and poem greet guests at the entrance of the banquet hall. Such detail fascinates me. |
|
Beautiful arch led the way to the banquet hall. |
|
Lovely lunch buffet spread.... |
|
Drooling beef rendang....this version is called Rendang Tok. |
|
Spicy fried chicken..... |
|
Sambal udang (prawn in chili)....oooh....the keyboard is wet as I write this.... |
|
Acar rampai...vegetables in vinegar and chili sauce. |
|
The five-storey wedding cake! It's so pretty, isn't it? |
|
The bride and groom making their entrance. They look smashing in traditional gear of songket (woven gold thread cloth). |
|
I can't resist taking photo of this cute young man.....He's cute. He was the bunga manggar carrier in the bridal procession. |
|
The bride and groom on their throne. |
|
As for these young ladies, they had the task of distributing gifts from the groom's family to the guests. Ferrero Rochers for everyone.... |
Angelina's Note: I'll accompany my Mama to any wedding, anytime, anywhere. I loooove the pomp and glitter.
purrr....meow!

Hi Cat, Wow! I really enjoyed looking thru all the pics.
I have always enjoyed Malay weddings, specially for the food.
And at last I see the who is who in your pics....well taken too.
So, thats who 'Red Alfa' is, ha ha....good looking gentleman.
And Zendra looks real cool too.
The bride and groom real lovely couple....
But Holy Smoke! The weddings of today sure very lavish.
I'd rather have a quiet one, spend the money on board the Queen Mary 2, ha ha.
Have a great week.
Lee.
I would love to attend a wedding there...they are beautiful! And the food, it looks out of this world yummy. What fun!
congratulations to both couples!! Both weddings are so ornate and beautiful! The couples are adorable.
I have to say the food at the second wedding really made my mouth water but they both look delicious!
I never heard of a bride and groom being on a throne but I LOVE that concept!
CAT
What did you wear? A gown or baju kurung? Mesti cute!
Cantiknya perkahwinan dibandar. Kami cuma berlatar-belakan pokok pisang dan kelapa, dan makan gulai kawah beserta ikan nkering dan sayur labu - but no less in measure of happiness, His gift.
Uncle Lee,
Wish we could send the wedding food to you...but the Canadian Customs will take one whiff and pengsan. I'd like a lavish wedding and cruise on Queen Mary too...how about that? purrr....meow!
Katnip Lounger,
There's going to be a wedding in my family in August next year. I reckon you can start saving for the tickets from you. We'll provide accommodation and meals. Deal? purrr....meow!
Aunty Caren,
In the Malay custom, the bride and groom are called "Raja Sehari" meaning King and Queen of the day. Thus the dais or throne where they don't have to do any work but just look pretty and handsome for everyone else to bless. I'm offering you the same deal as Katnip Lounger, if you want to experience a traditional wedding. purrr...meow!
Aunty CS,
Kucing mana pakai baju! Ish...buat malu je. purrr....meow!
Dear Pakcik,
True, what's more important is the happiness....whether in the village or in the cities. We had gulai kawah last week, not at a wedding but at a newly opened East Coast cuisine restaurant. purrr....meow!

I have not been to weddings for so long. But I think I will be focusing on those delicious foods most of the time...teehehehehe...interesting macam-macam tema sekarang.
What lovely wedding parties! The desserts make my mouth water! Plus the decor is so pretty! Do you think Nikki would fit into the egg buckets, since she loves buckets so much?
Ayoh Wang went back to Negeri Terang Ganu (State of Bright Rainbow) and accompanied RA, Zen and their "rombongang" to Kampong Kebor Besar on Sunday before this event ;))
Tante Sandy,
There's a bigggg wedding that I can invite you to next year. Can start booking AA from now. purrrr....meow!
