Cat Grass Galore???

Scene 1: In a moving car
Location: Somewhere along Sabak Bernam - Kuala Selangor route

Dad: Wow! Look at those stalls. What are they selling?
Mama: (screams) Mangoes!!!! STOP!!!
Dad: (brakes immediately) What? Why? Did we hit something?
Mama: I want to buy some mangoes....
Dad: Yeah...but you don't have to scare me like that. What if I had a heart attack?
Mama: Sorry, love. You know how I loooove mangoes....
Dad: OK OK, go buy a bonnetfull. My legs need a stretch anyway. Come Angelina. Let's look at the surrounding area while your Mama picks her mangoes. Make sure you get my favourite type too.
Mama: (flutters eyelashes) Your wish is my command, master!
Dad: Ish....

I followed Dad and brought along the camera, just in case. Lo and behold, what have we here?

Could this be cat grass haven?
So lush and inviting....I could have a munching orgy here...
Up close and personal...come here to Angie you juicy juicy grass...
Who is this wonderful person who's been planting so generously?
Scene 2: Grass Nursery (????)
Location: A few yards from mango stall

Dad: Angelina, stop rolling your body on that patch.
Angelina: But Dad this is juicy stuff. I loooove munching on cat grass...
Dad: But that's not cat grass. Don't you know what it is?
Angelina: Huh? Not cat grass?
Dad: Yeah...these are baby rice plants and this is a nursery where they raise the seedlings before transplanting to the rice field.
Angelina: Baby rice plants? But they look like grass.
Dad: The scientific name for rice is Oryza sativa and it is from the grass family, same as bamboo and wheat.
Angelina: Oh well, you learn something new everyday. But I could swear this is cat grass. You try some, Dad.

Aaah, had to go and spoil the fun for the little one. Still it's good to munch on when it's young and tender.

Love the pix today.

Have a good weekend and come see us when you can.

Long long time ago... everytime I drove back to my kampung in Sitiawan, I used to stop by near Sekinchan to buy mangoes.

One day, I asked the guy selling mangoes - "these mangoes are nice, where do you grow them". The guy replied "Sitiawan mari".

Cody darl,
This place is near Mama's maternal village and it is a rice planting area. So, it's only natural for farmers to plant rice rather than cat grass, I reckon. purrr meow!

Please drive carefully and stay safe on the roads, Angelina's Mama and Dad! Those look like very healthy cat grass plants to my feline-centric eyes too. I am trying to grow wheatgrass and barleygrass for my Rowdies but I don't think I'm doing it right because nothing is sprouting.

CO78,
We did a lot of travelling during the fasting month because of the Fast2Feed programme but stayed in KL during Eid coz Mama's been sick. We bought grass seeds at PLC and just followed instructions on the packet. So far so good. purr....meow!
