Transportation of Yore

Angelina's note: Whoa! Look at the decorations on the trishaw. The locals call this mode of transportation as beca. Maybe we should try taking public transportation like this in future instead of renting a car. purrr....meow!

salam CfS,
we should try their services .
not for the sake of pleasure ride..
more important assisting them to get some income ...

This reminds me, once upon a time, a friend who had lived in Australia went home with her son. So she thought, she'll take him on a beca ride.

The beca rider was an old uncle like the one in pic. When the beca starts, her son screamed, "STOP !!" , and then the kid said, " No...Poor uncle ! You don't have to do this, we might be too heavy !!"

The uncle was like, "it's ok...really... get back in there !" But yea.. we ARE heavy :( , becak should be more humane, maybe with added motor like the ones in Medan would be better..

Uncle Aby,
You are right. But only for short rides....especially when the load is very heavy (= 6 obese cats!). purrr...meow!

Tante Sandy,
We've tried the motorised one in Medan. Fun but scaryyyyy!!!! Especially crossing junctions with very heavy traffic. I think over here the beca is only for very short trips. purrr....meow!

Kitcaboodles,
He must have. I can't imagine doing the riding and carrying passengers as well. purrr...meow!

I agree with Aby and Kitcaboodles. Even though we feel sorry for the poor Pakcik, it still is his source of income! I've tried riding a beca with my friends on board (I come from a small town and I have friends whose parents transport goods to the market using trishaws) and it's not too bad -- you see, the law of physics is such that the wheel-and-axle lever system is a very efficient one for reducing the effort needed to transport heavy loads. So ride away!

CO78,
Mama said when she was much younger (and much lighter) and living in Melaka, she used to ride on beca to go to the fish market. It was a much more expensive ride than taking the bus but the route was straight from point A to point B unlike the often roundabout way of the bus routes. We don't see them in KL anymore, eh? purr...meow!

It does look like a dificult way to make an income.Yet so admirable. Because he takes the time to decorate the trishaw beautifully with flowers... because he is willing to work hard rather than to beg for a living. We hope his future clients weigh little and that his purse stays full!
