Water, Water All Around Me....

Angelina's note: In days of yore, most rural areas in Malaysia do not have proper water supplies. Some would have deep wells like this where the villagers congregate to do their washing, bathing etc... We saw this at Cekmi's village in Pasir Mas, Kelantan. I wonder if water is still drawn from this well, in case there's a disruption of water supply. purrr....meow!

But would the water pass the strict health and safety regulations? lol It's very interesting to see how people live (and used to live!)

Sounds like wells are essential in rural areas in Malaysia. I've seen a well in Japan, it was for in case of emergency.
I think, too, maybe water will be drawn from that well if there is water supply shortage.

Aunty Carolyn,
Those days, those regulations don't matter as long as water was clean visually and taste wise. purr...meow!

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Kjelle,
Everyone has piped water now. But they should use the water from the well for their garden perhaps. purr...meow!

Aunty Jul,

Salam,

Just curious, did you look into the well ?

Sandy said...

Jakartans still use well because the tap water here is so unreliable, one day it's on, another day it decided to take vacation. So they drill well just in case the water dies. Anyway, if that well hasn't been used for years, I'd rather not find out what's in there -_- there could be snakes and other scary stuff

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Aunty Pi mandi berkemban erk? purrr....meow!

Anon 9:24am,
I dared not look. Anyway, we felt bad for using the well owner's front yard to make a U-turn as we were looking for a place to park. purrr....meow!

Tante Sandy,
Mama's office has sponsored many wells around your country, complete with tanks and pipes and generators. Especially on Java island. purr...meow!

Good enough for bathing and washing with! Malaysia is blessed with an amazing supply of groundwater! If we keep our rainforests intact as water catchment areas, our wells and aquifers will never run dry!

Cat-from-Sydney said...

CO78,
True, what you said. Unfortunately, too many forests being disturbed now. purrr...meow!

Water , water everywhere
and all the boards did shrink;
water, water everywhere,
nor any drop to drink.

That particular well looks as though it hasn't been used in a long time ... but I bet it was life saving at some point in the history of that village!
