Angelina's note: In days of yore, most rural areas in Malaysia do not have proper water supplies. Some would have deep wells like this where the villagers congregate to do their washing, bathing etc... We saw this at Cekmi's village in Pasir Mas, Kelantan. I wonder if water is still drawn from this well, in case there's a disruption of water supply.

But would the water pass the strict health and safety regulations? lol It's very interesting to see how people live (and used to live!)
I hope they have a new well to take water from !
love the picture..so greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen.
Sounds like wells are essential in rural areas in Malaysia. I've seen a well in Japan, it was for in case of emergency.
I think, too, maybe water will be drawn from that well if there is water supply shortage.
there's a well in my house too
Salams Puan,
This reminds me of my arwah wan n aki"s well in Kuantan Pahang.Lovely cool water from the well.
Thank you for the beautiful pix.

Ding dong bell, pussy in the well ?
Aunty Carolyn,
Those days, those regulations don't matter as long as water was clean visually and taste wise. purr...meow!
Kjelle,
Everyone has piped water now. But they should use the water from the well for their garden perhaps. purr...meow!
Aunty Jul,
You'd love the village more. purr...meow!
Tamago-san,
This particular well looks abandoned though. purr...meow!
Uncle Zool,
That's pawesome. purrr...meow!
Dear Wawa,

Your Royal Monyetness,
Ding dong bell, it's the monkey that's now in the well! purr...meow!
My house pun masih ada telaga... only used in emergencies though.
Salam,
Just curious, did you look into the well ?
Jakartans still use well because the tap water here is so unreliable, one day it's on, another day it decided to take vacation. So they drill well just in case the water dies. Anyway, if that well hasn't been used for years, I'd rather not find out what's in there -_- there could be snakes and other scary stuff
Aunty Pi mandi berkemban erk? purrr....meow!
Anon 9:24am,
I dared not look. Anyway, we felt bad for using the well owner's front yard to make a U-turn as we were looking for a place to park. purrr....meow!
Tante Sandy,
Mama's office has sponsored many wells around your country, complete with tanks and pipes and generators. Especially on Java island. purr...meow!
Good enough for bathing and washing with! Malaysia is blessed with an amazing supply of groundwater! If we keep our rainforests intact as water catchment areas, our wells and aquifers will never run dry!
CO78,
True, what you said. Unfortunately, too many forests being disturbed now. purrr...meow!
Water , water everywhere
and all the boards did shrink;
water, water everywhere,
nor any drop to drink.

That particular well looks as though it hasn't been used in a long time ... but I bet it was life saving at some point in the history of that village!
the critters in The Cottage
Cottage Felines,
Coleridge would definitely feel at home at our Meow Like a Pirate fest! Oh yes, am sure that well as a life saver in the past...who knows, it could be in future too. purr...meow!
Cool well! My father-in-law has a well than pumps water into their kitchen in Kulim. Clean, clear water :)
Aunty Pat,
That's pawesome...and I've always thought Kulim is sooo modern (read: Kulim High Tech Park). I'd love to taste that water. purrr....meow!
