Island Cats: Paradise or Hell on Earth????

Angelina's note: Kitties, for once I'm glad my Mama and Dad are such busybodies and hardcore pawpawrazzi. They visited an island famous for snorkeling and diving activities, worldwide. The natives there are poor and eke out a meagre living by fishing and not really benefiting from the thriving tourism industry. Mama showed me the photographs she and Dad took of the feline population there. Some made bawl my eyes out. The kitties are now considered a nuisance by the hooomans there. There used to be many woofies but they have now disappeared. Rumour has it that they were poisoned to cull the population. Mama wants to organise a capture and spay programme there. Any volunteers? For the record, there is no vet clinic on the island. purrrr....meow!

Oh the poor things, it makes my heart ache to see them so thin and hungry. At least some of them look happy and well fed, enjoying the sunshine.

Aunty Caro,
Sadly, as we speak, more kitties are born there as I saw some pregnant girls roaming about. It's not easy organising this but we'll try our best. purrr....meow!

Kitcaboodles,
Feeding them, unfortunately, does not solve the problem. purrr....meow!

Your Royal Monyetness,
We did neither. Looking at the poverty and the feline population surely will make one loses appetite. purr...meow!

Aunty Puteri,
We'll surely rope you in. purrr....meow!

BoBo,
Given the right nutrition and proper health care, even #4 will turn to be a handsome mancat like you. All of us of the rescue breed know that....purrr...meow

Yes, they are free to roam and run and mate and sleep in the sun, but they are so skinny and some of them don't look healthy at all. Wish we could do a quick Snip Campaign there. Bring a team of vets to neuter, vaccinate, deworm and deflea them. Have us volunteers care for them for a week or two. Then release them and see if their quality of life doesn't improve after that.
